Carmelite Basilica
Introduction
The Basilica of St. Teresa, commonly known as the Carmlite Basilica, is located in Keszthely and is the largest church of the Hungarian Discalced Carmelite Order in Hungary. Construction of the Neo-Romanesque building began in 1927, and it was consecrated in 1938. The church was built in honor of Saint Thérèse of Lisieux and has been an important spiritual and community center ever since. The interior of the basilica is rich in artistic treasures: marble altars, sculptures, frescoes, and the Angster organ, built in 1937, all contribute to the sacred experience. The church was elevated to the rank of basilica by Pope John Paul II in 1989. The site not only hosts religious events, but also musical and cultural programs, so visitors can also enjoy spiritual and artistic experiences.
