Introduction

Built at the end of the 18th century on the estate of Bishop Károly Esterházy, the Esterházy Palace Visitor Centre (Esterházy-kastély Látogatóközpont) is one of Balatonfüred's most significant historic buildings. Its history is closely linked to the healing properties of Füred's sour water and the development of bathing culture during the Reform Era. The renovated building houses a spectacular interactive exhibition presenting the history of holidays and bathing at Lake Balaton in the 19th and 20th centuries.

The exhibition covers a variety of topics, including the traditions of hot and cold bathing, the history of steamboats and sailing on Lake Balaton, the atmosphere of the Anna Balls in Füred and contemporary accommodation and spa treatments. The visitor centre introduces the region's cultural heritage in an experiential way and also promotes relaxation with a café and rest areas.
