Garda Akvárium

Introduction

Located in the heart of Tihany, the Garda (Mullet) Aquarium offers a unique insight into the aquatic life of Lake Balaton. The visitor center aims to bring nature closer to people of all ages while providing an entertaining and educational experience. Its display aquariums, which hold over 23,000 litres of water, house 15 different species of freshwater fish, including both well-known and rare varieties. The aquariums are designed to meet the physiological needs of each species, enabling visitors to observe them in their natural environment.

Interactive touchscreen information boards provide detailed descriptions of the fish and offer an educational and enjoyable programme for children. Garda Aquarium is named after Garda (Hungarian for mullet) fish, which is closely associated with Tihany and even features on the town's coat of arms.
