Georgikon Riding School
Introduction
Georgikon Equestrian Education and Horse Breeding Center operates as part of the MATE (Hungarian University of Agriculture and Life Sciences) Georgikon Campus in Keszthely and is one of the region’s most prominent professional and educational equestrian centers. Built on the heritage of the Festetics family, the institution preserves centuries-old horse breeding traditions and plays a key role in Hungarian equestrian tourism, sport horse breeding, and equestrian education.
The center breeds English Thoroughbreds and Kisbéri horses, and offers dressage, jumping training, carriage driving, and trail riding. It is a certified riding school by the Hungarian Equestrian Tourism Association, welcoming both beginner and advanced riders, with discounted lessons for children’s groups, summer camps, and opportunities through sports clubs.
Location & Accessibility
The equestrian center is located on the outskirts of the southern part of the city. It can be accessed by road from Route 71 or via Festetics György Street through Szendreytelepi Street. The infrequent local bus line 3 stops nearby, while regional buses stop at 'Keszthely, Egyetem, kollégium' (about a 20-minute walk). The Keszthely train station and long-distance bus terminal are approximately a 40-minute walk from the site.
