Lake Köcsi

Introduction

Köcsi Lake is located on the outskirts of the Káptalanfüred district of Balatonalmádi, in the area of a former red sandstone and clay quarry. The lake is surrounded by a mosaic of marsh and reed vegetation, which provides a habitat for rare plant communities. Among the geological features of the area is the red stone, which also appears in the region’s built heritage.

What makes the lake special is that it serves as a natural habitat for several protected plant species, including the bluish-green Scirpus deweyi, which was first recorded in the Bakony region here.

Location & Accessibility

The lake is situated in the western part of Balatonalmádi, near the border of Káptalanfüred and Alsóörs. The nearest public transportation options are the Káptalanfüred railway stop and several regional bus lines that stop at 'Balatonalmádi, Káptalanfüred vasúti megállóhely, bejárati út' and 'Balatonalmádi (Káptalanfüred), alsó' bus stops. From these, the lake can be reached with a roughly 15-minute walk. The surrounding area is easily accessible on foot, with several hiking trails connecting to the lake.
