Monasteries and Gardens

Introduction

Monasteries and Gardens is one of Veszprém's most unique urban green areas, where nature, history, and active recreation meet. The carefully designed walking trail along the Séd Stream connects the Veszprém castle with the zoo, surrounded by Árpád-era monuments, ruins, playgrounds, and rest areas. The park-like environment is ideal for family activities, Nordic walking, cycling, or simply taking a stroll. Benches nestled in the shade of leafy trees, the atmosphere of the stream and the historical monuments provide a unique experience for all ages.

The area is unique in that it is home to the ruins of the Veszprém Valley nunnery ruins, where, according to tradition, the coronation cloak was embroidered, as well as Margit ruins, where Saint Margaret of the House of Árpád lived. During the tour, visitors can admire the Jesuit Church, the monastery, and try out three modern playgrounds including the Hungarian Folk Tale Playground.

Location & Accessibility

The walking route can be accessed from several points, on foot from the castle, from the zoo, or from Kertalja Street. The paths are wide and well maintained, making them accessible for strollers and wheelchairs. There are several rest areas, benches, and shaded areas in the park. and free parking is available nearby, from where the valley can be reached in a short walk. Most of the playgrounds are wheelchair accessible, but due to the terrain, some sections may be steeper.
