Nagyatád
Introduction
Nagyatád is a small town in the southwestern part of Somogy County, long favored as a tourist destination thanks to its natural features, historical heritage, and thermal waters. The cultural and recreational institutions built around the tree-lined park of Széchenyi Square in the town center offer a unique atmosphere.
The thermal bath, in operation for over a hundred years and featuring outdoor pools open year-round, the open-air exhibits of the Military Technology Park, the local history collection of the Town Museum, and the architectural ensemble of the Holy Cross Parish Church and Franciscan Monastery all provide opportunities for both physical and intellectual rejuvenation.
The T25 heritage building hosts art exhibitions, memorial rooms, and historical displays. The town also offers a diverse culinary scene, with restaurants, pastry shops, bistros, and fast-food outlets lining the downtown area.
Sports tourism also plays an important role in Nagyatád. The town hosts the ExtremeMan long-distance triathlon, an internationally recognized event. Green spaces, parks, and outdoor facilities encourage you to engage in active recreation.
Location & Accessibilty
Nagyatád can be reached by road via Main Route 68, from the directions of Kaposvár/Marcali and Barcs. By rail, the town is accessible on the Dombóvár–Gyékényes line, with a transfer to a replacement bus service at Somogyszob. There is also a direct long-distance bus connection from Budapest. The tourist center is located at Széchenyi Square and is just a few minutes’ walk from the main transportation hub.
