Introduction

Situated 35 km from Veszprém, Pannon Csillagda offers visitors a 400 m² exhibition dedicated to astronomy and space exploration. Highlights of the history of astronomy exhibition include the famous Gibeon meteorite, antique telescopes, Galileo's and Newton's discoveries and experiments, astronomical navigation by sailors and the greatest space exploration expeditions, including the Apollo programme and the discovery of Mars.

Pannon Csillagda is also home to Hungary's most modern digital planetarium. Visitors can enjoy an unforgettable cosmic journey from the comfort of armchairs familiar from IMAX cinemas, thanks to the 3D images projected onto the 8-metre-diameter hemispherical dome with a resolution twice that of HD and a 5.1 surround sound system.

Visitors can also take part in a special evening programme. During this programme, weather permitting, telescopes will be set up in the observatory dome to observe seasonal sights, including our planetary neighbours, the craters and mountain ranges of the Moon, star clusters, supernova remnants and interstellar gas clouds. On the terrace, visitors can learn about the Bakony sky above them with a laser constellation presentation and satellite identification.
