Sümeg Africanarium
The unique African trophy collection is a private collection of a hunter, which came into the possession of the local government of Sümeg under a 15-year lease agreement. Until August this year, the collection was guarded by Verga Zrt. The city of Szemeg undertook to organize a unified exhibition of the extremely colorful material and present it to the general public. The experts at the Balaton Museum in Keszthely provided assistance in this endeavor. The artistically painted diorama was created using the most modern techniquesand, together with background sounds, creates the illusion of a real African habitat. The local government has set up more than 220 trophies in a former cinema building that has been converted for this purpose. The exhibition presents the wildlife of the black continent in the form of several life-size and lifelike specimens. Among the trophies, visitors can find small antelopes, but visitors can also admire elephant tusks, stuffed lions, other felines, examples of different monkey species, hippopotamuses, and rhinoceros specimens. The new museum was named "Sümeg Africa" through a competition. The city announced a naming competition on its official Facebook page. The winner was a resident of Sümeg.
