Szigligeti Creative House
Introduction
The Szigligeti Creative House is one of the most important artistic centers in the Balaton Uplands, serving artists since 1952. The institution is housed in a classicist-style built at the end of the 18th century, and was previously owned by the Tóthi Lengyel, Puteani, and then Esterházy families. The castle is surrounded by a world-famous arboretum with more than 520 species of plants, sculptures, a stream, and an artificial lake. The nature reserve is a protected historical monument.
The creative community was initially visited by writers and poets, later by visual and industrial artists, musicians, and filmmakers also regularly created their works here. Renowned artists such as István Örkény, Magda Szabó, János Pilinszky, Imre Kertész, and Sándor Weöres. The peaceful environment, the historic building and the natural beauty provide an inspiring backdrop for concentrated work.
Location & Accessibility
The studio is located in Szigliget, at 17 Kossuth Lajos Street. The settlement is situated in the Tapolca-Keszthely-Badacsony triangle, making it easily accessible by car and public transport. The nearest train station is in Tapolca, from where local buses run to Szigliget. Parking is available in the vicinity of the castle.
The studio is operated by the Hungarian Fine Arts Nonprofit Ltd. and primarily accepts artists on the basis of prior application.
